Absolute Empress I, Jose
The Widow Norton
Eternal.

On August 19, the world lost one of our historic LGBT leaders, Jose Julio Sarria, known in the 1950's as the Nightingale of Montgomery Street, headline performer at San Francisco's Black Cat, and in 1961, first openly gay candidate for political office in the United States.  We knew her and loved her as the founder of the Imperial Court System, Absolute Empress I Jose, The Widow Norton, and will miss her.
